In June, we took an epic trip to New York City. Everyone had their highlights of our trip. My youngest daughter is now obsessed with Broadway shows after seeing Aladdin. My husband’s favorite was our trip to Ferrara’s – the oldest Italian bakery in New York City which happens to have some amazing Tiramisu. Our youngest was in it for all the treats the city had to offer.
And when we came home, we had a whopping 3,789 photos between the 7 of us! There were many duplicates, many “trashable” photos and even more “not the best” photos. Over two decades as a photographer has taught me that I don’t just want to keep the best of the best photographs, but I also don’t want to have so many photographs that I can’t enjoy my photos. There’s definitely a balance in there – and its achievable with practice and the careful work of curation. I was able to narrow down our collection from thousands to an enjoyable collection of 356 images. A travel book of this size is ideally between 230-270 photos for a 60 page album. Using my curated collection, I created a photo book that told the story of our adventures in the big city that we can enjoy for years to come.
